Gombe State has been ranked the 2nd best-performing state out of 7 states on the CODSAiN project's maturity scorecard, placing just behind Lagos State among 7 states assessed. The recognition came at the Dissemination and Validation of Maturity Scorecard and Assessment Meeting on the Community-Oriented DMPA-SC Self-Injection Acceleration in Nigeria (CODSAiN) Project, organized by the Association for Reproductive and Family Health (ARFH) with support from the Federal Ministry of Health and the Gates Foundation.
A Moment of National Recognition
Representing Gombe State and GCDA, the implementing partner driving CODSAiN's work on the ground, the team received a flame-shaped trophy in honour of the state's performance across the project's scorecard domains — governance, service delivery, demand generation, supply chain, and data management among them. The award was presented on stage before delegates from across the participating states.

Behind the Ranking
The second-place finish reflects the ground-level work GCDA has driven across Gombe State's 11 Local Government Areas — from scaling the CHIPS agent network and strengthening facility-level supportive supervision, to mobilizing community and religious leaders around family planning myth demystification. Those efforts fed directly into the domain scores that make up the CODSAiN maturity scorecard, and the national ranking is a validation of that work being recognized alongside the state's peers.

Carrying the Momentum Forward
Second place among 7 states is a strong marker of how far Gombe State's family planning self-care ecosystem has come under CODSAiN — and GCDA, as the state's implementing partner, is already looking at what it will take to close the gap further. The recognition adds to a growing list of milestones for the project in Gombe State this year, including an earlier award from the Pharmaceutical Association of Nigerian Students (PANS), Gombe State University chapter.
